Chapter Titles

With the unfortunate exception of some of the advice on horse handling and riding, this is a good book for the first time horse owner or prospective owner. It covers what to consider before buying a horse, how to find and buy a suitable horse and tack, and looking after the horse.

Horse behaviour and psychology is touched on only briefly and then from a very human perspective.

Where the book falls short is in its discussions of training and riding. The author is too quick to recommend using a crop without talking about the need for understanding the causes of behaviour problems. She even suggests using a broom for loading a horse into a trailer.
