Sylvia Loch lives in Scotland
but teaches and lectures all over the world. She spent many years in
Portugal where she became enamoured with the Lusitano horse and classical
horsemanship. She and her husband established a dressage school in
Portugal which they later moved to England. Students learned from
schoolmaster Lusitano stallions. In 1995, Sylvia launched The Classical
Riding Club to encourage a higher standard of horsemanship and a more
philosophical approach among dressage riders.
Her first book, The Royal Horse of Europe was published in 1986 to be reviewed in Horse and Hound as the "book of the year." The Classical Seat, which followed a year later, has also become a best-selling video. In 1990, Dressage, the Art of Classical Riding, a book on the evolution of dressage, was published, and in 1997, The Classical Rider.
